14.0 Speed Test procedure

Conduct FTP

Speed Test

From the gateway conduct FTP speed test to local CENTURYLINK FTP server.

1. Click Start or the Start icon.

2. Click Run or search for cmd to access the Command

Prompt.

3. Type ftp xx.xx.xx.xx (local FTP server address from

list below) and press Enter.

4. Type ftp as the user name, press Enter.

5. No password is required, press Enter.

6. Type hash and press Enter.

For Download Tests;

1. Type get test.2meg and press Enter.

2. Record readings. DSL line speed is measured in bits

per second (64KB is the same as 512kbps). There are

8 bits to a byte, so multiply the total byte rate by 8 to

get the bit rate.

For Upload Tests;

1. Type cd upload and press Enter.

2. Type put test.2meg and press Enter.

(NOTE: The upload test must use the same file used in

the download test.

3. Record readings. (See step 2 in Download Tests.)

4. Type bye and press Enter to end the session.
